Hydrogène : AREVA H2Gen inaugure la première usine de fabrication d'électrolyseurs en France, aux Ulis (91)

Les Ulis, 24 juin 2016 - Avec la création de cette usine d'électrolyseurs, le tout jeune industriel AREVA H2Gen apporte une solution technologique française innovante qui répond à la nécessité de stocker massivement l'énergie fournie par les énergies renouvelables. C'est l'un des leviers majeurs de la transition énergétique. Située aux Ulis (91), l'usine fabrique des électrolyseurs dernière génération pour produire de l'hydrogène à partir d'eau et d'électricité.

L'hydrogène, lorsqu'il est issu de l'électricité produite par les énergies renouvelables, est un vecteur d'énergie totalement décarboné. L'hydrogène permet de stocker le surplus de ces productions énergétiques intermittentes sur de longues durées. Les électrolyseurs d'AREVA H2Gen restituent ensuite l'hydrogène stocké sous la forme désirée, solide, gazeuse ou liquide.

Les secteurs d'applications sont les services aux réseaux électriques, la mobilité propre des véhicules électriques à pile à combustible, ainsi que les usages industriels.

Initiée sur les programmes spatiaux, l'électrolyse PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane, membrane à échange de protons) est maintenant mature pour une utilisation industrielle. La brique technologique française a bénéficié de 25 ans de R&D avant de devenir un outil compact, flexible, simple d'utilisation avec une maintenance opérationnelle réduite.

Unique fabricant d'électrolyseurs sur le territoire français, AREVA H2Gen a vocation à adresser un marché mondial en rapide évolution. Equipementier industriel, l'entreprise assure l'ingénierie des projets.

Son carnet de commandes affiche près de 10 M€ en juin 2016 et le nombre de salariés a doublé en deux ans d'existence.

La production d'hydrogène comme vecteur d'énergie représente un potentiel stratégique que les pouvoirs publics ont désormais bien identifié. La loi sur la transition énergétique pour la croissance verte et la solution Mobilité écologique du programme de La Nouvelle France Industrielle en attestent.

En effet, les atouts environnementaux de l'hydrogène et son excellent rendement énergétique permettent d'évoluer vers un monde plus durable. Avec le stockage massif de leur surproduction, les énergies renouvelables seront mieux intégrées aux réseaux. Ce type de stockage facilite un fonctionnement souple et décentralisé.

La mobilité électrique propre proviendra de la mutualisation des sites de production d'hydrogène à l'échelle régionale avec le déploiement de stations de recharges locales. AREVA H2Gen prépare actuellement la plus grosse station-service d'hydrogène à ce jour pour l'entreprise Braley à Rodez. Rappelons qu'une voiture à pile à combustible est un véhicule électrique qui offre les mêmes avantages qu'un véhicule à essence, c’est-à-dire une autonomie supérieure à 500 kms et un rechargement en moins de 5 minutes.

AREVA H2Gen est issue de la fusion en mai 2014 d’une entreprise de R&D et des actifs d’électrolyse d’AREVA. Elle a reçu le soutien du Programme d’investissements d'avenir opéré par l'ADEME. C'est une start-up industrielle qui regroupe AREVA, l'ADEME et SMART ENERGIES.

Elle est partenaire de plusieurs programmes de développement et de R&D français et européens.

AREVA H2Gen, leader français de l'électrolyse, fabrique des électrolyseurs à membrane échangeuse de protons (électrolyse PEM : Proton Exchange Membrane). Installation of an AQYLON Organic Rankine Cycle power plant on Veolia biogas production landfill

This project, an Organic Rankine Cylce (ORC) power plant with a capacity of 330 kWe, is SMART ENERGIES’ first investment in energy efficiency. It is designed and manufactured by AQYLON. The investment will improve the energy efficiency of the Storage Installation of Non-Hazardous Waste, of Septèmes-les-Vallons in Marseille, France, managed by Veolia. Electricity generation will be through the recovery of heat from the exhaust fumes of two biogas engines. This is done through an ORC power block. The 800 MWh produced annually allow the site to be energetically autonomous. The ORC technology developed by AQYLON is particularly promising and competitive on power projects below 5 MW, with high temperature heat sources. The equipment will be commissioned in September 2015.

Vianney de l’Estang du Rusquec, Chairman of the Board of SMART ENERGIES, welcomed this investment: “We are very happy to contribute to the energy transition through this first investment in energy efficiency. Besides renewable energy production, in which we already invest, we see energy efficiency as a very important source of energy savings. Often, however, projects are unable to obtain funding. For this project we managed to find a suitable investment scheme with our partners, Veolia and AQYLON. We are currently exploring other investments of this type.”

“This first project is quite an example of what AQYLON is capable of doing. All the heat from the two biogas engines is recovered to produce clean, free electricity. This first project was also an opportunity to develop our external financing solution, which we intend to generalize, particularly for exporting our technology,” confirms Pierre CONVERT, CEO of AQYLON.

“Veolia has chosen to support this startup because the project responds to the will of the company to support the development of innovative technologies and strengthen its heat recovery equipment. The ORC power block installed on ISDND in Septèmes-les-Vallons allows the facility to by energetically autonomous,” said Hervé Pernot, technical manager of Veolia Mediterranean, Recycling & Valorization of Waste Products.

SMART ENERGIES to invest in 29 solar plants built by BELECTRIC

Smart Energies pursues its strategy to operate a large portfolio of mid-size decentralized renewable assets in Europe and announces an investment in 29 new solar PV rooftops located in different regions of France. These solar plants cover agricultural buildings of 650 sqm each, mostly used as barns or storage facilities, for a total installed capacity of 3 MWp and a yearly production of more than 3.3 GWh. These projects have been developed and built by Belectric (France), using best available technologies for modules and inverters. They were commissioned in 2013 and 2014. The integration of these 29 new plants will enable Smart Energies to leverage its strong experience of multi-sites operation and confirm its role of growing player in the consolidation of the solar rooftops market in France.

SMART ENERGIES acquires a 1-MW solar rooftop and enters into a long-term O&M agreement with SOLARIG

Smart Energies strengthens its renewable assets portfolio in France and announces the acquisition of a large solar rooftop located in Ribiers (Hautes-Alpes, France) close to Gap. The solar plant covers a fruits storage building on roughly 9,000 sqm and has a capacity of 1.03 MWp corresponding to a yearly production of more than 1.1 GWh. The project has been developed and built by Solarig. It was commissioned at the end of 2011. Solarig will provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services to the plant through a 7-year O&M contract signed with Smart Energies.

SMART ENERGIES launches the construction of a 24 MW solar project in Cestas (Gironde – France)

Smart Energies speeds up the development of its renewable assets portfolio in France and announces the construction of a 24 MW solar ground project in Cestas, close to Bordeaux. Developed by Neoen that will remain minority shareholder in the project, the plant will be directly connected to RTE high voltage line. The project construction amounts to € 28m and will be led by a French consortium composed of Eiffage-Clemessy / Schneider Electric / Krinner - commissioning date is expected for October 2015. The 28 GWh yearly generated by this plant will be equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 15,000 people and eliminate around 11,000 tons of CO2 emissions p.a. This project is part of larger one that includes several other plants for an overall capacity of 300 MW, meaning it will be the largest solar park in Europe.

Hydrogen production: creation of a global leader in PEM electrolysis

AREVA, SMART ENERGIES through its subsidiary CETH2, and the ADEME (French Environment and Energy Management Agency) announce the creation of the AREVA H2-Gen joint venture, which aims to manufacture Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers. This technology shall enable hydrogen to be produced from water and electricity.

Initially intended for industrial applications, PEM electrolysis is now targeting the renewable energy storage market, to supply service stations with hydrogen for fuel cell vehicles or to supply natural gas networks (Power-to-gas).

AREVA, SMART ENERGIES and the French State, represented by the ADEME as operator of the Investissements d’Avenir (investments for the future) Programme, will eventually hold equal stakes in the company, with the aim of making it a leading global player in the field of hydrogen production by electrolysis. This company will be based in France, where it will have a dedicated engineering and production site.

The equity investment provided by the ADEME, acting on behalf of the French State, shall help finance the investments required for the development and sale of more powerful electrolysers.

Vianney de l’Estang, CEO of SMART ENERGIES, expressed his delight with this agreement: “We acquired CETH2 in 2010 to finance the first prototypes of PEM electrolysers, and have supported the company over the past four years in its technical and commercial development. In a PEM electrolysis market undergoing strong growth, we are now delighted to be able to join forces with an industrial partner such as AREVA, with the financial support of the ADEME.”
